Talitha McQueen

writer of gothic fiction


Talitha McQueen is an Australian-born writer based in London whose work explores women’s hidden histories through gothic fiction.

She has completed her debut historical gothic novel Mrs Crowley, which reimagines the life of Aleister Crowley’s wife, Rose Edith Kelly, from her own perspective. She is currently working on a second historical gothic novel.

Talitha recently completed her Master’s degree in Creative Writing, graduating with a Distinction. Her dissertation which included a contemporary gothic novella, New York Street, examined how contemporary women writers use gothic techniques to explore trauma, identity, and memory in urban settings.

She is represented by James Wills of Watson, Little.

Awards & Recognition

Finalist in the Page Turner Awards 2023 (Book Adaptation Needed category) for an earlier draft of Mrs Crowley.

Longlisted for The London Library Emerging Writers Programme 2024, selected from nearly 1,700 applicants.

Alongside her historical fiction, she is also a photographer and visual artist.

I am an Australian-born Londoner interested in the lost history of women. I have recently completed a MA in Creative Writing. I was long listed for the London Library Emerging Writers Programme in 2024 and my novel, MRS CROWLEY was long listed in the Page Turner Awards 2023.
